Sandra Henderson is an artist who lives and works in Perth, Western Australia.
After teaching Art and English in West Australian Secondary Schools for 25 years, recent retirement has now liberated Sandra to pursue her own creativity. She shares her time between her studios in Maylands and York and is kept busy preparing for exhibitions and fulfilling a growing number of commissions.
Sandra is inspired by flowers - the intricacy of their many different shapes, patterns and colours and this has led to a series of works which feature subtle, textured backgrounds overlaid by the striking colours and intricate detail of the blossoms. She works from life as well as her own drawings and photographs and tries to capture the essence of the flower - it's 'secret life', rather than that of a strictly botanical view. Her work is mainly watercolour with the addition of some mixed media.
Sandra prefers to focus on the 'micro' rather than the 'macro' view. Her paintings have been described as 'captured serendipity' - an apt description!
